'Lopes Finish Second at GCU Invite

The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team placed second today at the GCU Fall Invitational in Litchfield Park at the Wigwam Resort with a 27-over par 305-298-603.
GCU was just five strokes behind tournament champions Sonoma State University who carded a 598 total. California State Monterey Bay came in third with 614. Sonoma State’s Spencer Heller was individual medalist with an impressive six-under par 138 (68-70) tournament total.
The ‘Lopes were led by Charlotte Jaengkit who carded a one-over par 71-74-145 to place third individually.
Sophomore Tiffany Hewetson tied for eighth with an eight-over 152 after shooting 79 in the first round and improving to a 73 in the second. Brittany Penny and Kelcey Tate tied for 13th with their 154 tournament totals. Penny made a comeback as well after struggling in the first round with an 80 and carded a 74 in the second. Senior Ashley Mooney shot a solid 78-78 to finish 12-over par with 156.
Grand Canyon will travel to Bellingham, Wash. for the Western Washington Invitational Oct. 10-11.
