NCAA Ranks Women's Golf Third in West Region

The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team was ranked third in the west region this week by the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Regional Poll, released Thursday, March 31.
GCU is ranked third behind first place Tarleton State University and second place Western Washington University.
Grand Canyon was recently ranked eighth in the nation by the National Golf Coaches Association and 10th by the Golfstat Division II head-to-head rankings. Junior Brittany Penny (Peoria, AZ, Centennial (Winthrop University)) has been ranked 13th individually.
The ‘Lopes won their last tournament, the Chico State InterWest Invitational on March 21-22 at the Butte Creek Golf Club in Chico, Calif. This win marked a victory over the second ranked team in the west region, Western Washington University. WWU was leading after day one of the two day tournament before GCU finished eight strokes ahead of them in the second round to finish first by three strokes overall.
Grand Canyon has three tournament wins and one dual win for the 2010-11 season. GCU will play host to the top ranked teams in the west region next week at the Grand Canyon University Invitational, April 4-5, at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. Top ranked teams include Tarleton State (first), Western Washington (second), St. Edward’s (fourth), and the second ranked team in the central region, Western New Mexico University. Tournament play will begin on Monday, April 4, at 7:00 am.
