Women's Golf Back in Top 10

The Grand Canyon University women’s golf team has worked their way back into the top 10 this week in Golfstat’s Division II head-to-head rankings after winning the Chico State InterWest Invitational earlier this week.
The ‘Lopes dropped to 14th after placing seventh at the Northern Arizona Lumberjack Shootout in Litchfield Park, Ariz. at the Wigwam. GCU struggled with Brittany Penny (Peoria, AZ, Centennial (Winthrop University)), now ranked 13th individually, being the only finisher in the top 10 at the end of the tournament. Penny tied for fifth with a one over par, 217. The second finisher for the ‘Lopes was Jacqueline Sneddon (Meigle, Scotland, Madras College) who tied for 19th overall.
Grand Canyon turned it around this week, winning the InterWest Invitational in Chico, Calif. and beating out fifth ranked Western Washington by three strokes. It was a great win with three players in the top 10. Senior Sneddon finished second, Ashley Mooney (Port Saint Lucie, FL, Cheista McAuliffe (Daytona State College)) tied for third, and Penny tied for sixth. This was the team’s first major tournament win of the spring season.
The ‘Lopes will take next week off before hosting the Grand Canyon University Invitational, April 4-5, at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
