The No. 10 Grand Canyon University wrestling team capped off a dominant performance today at the Mile High Duals in Prescott, Ariz., routing NAIA No. 3 ranked Great Falls, 29-9.
The Antelopes finished 3-0 at the Mile High Duals, defeating Simon Fraser 42-9 and Menlo 47-4 in their first two duals this afternoon.
The much anticipated nightcap with Great Falls got off to an inauspicious start, as the ‘Lopes
AJ Chavez fell 12-6 at 125 pounds, giving the Argos the early 3-0 lead.
No. 2
Todd Wilcox improved to 18-3 for the season, evening the dual at 3-3, with a 6-1 win over Great Falls’ Scott Schlosser.
The Argos reclaimed the momentum, albeit briefly, winning by fall at 141, giving them a 9-3 lead.
The rest of the match would be dominated by GCU, beginning with
Austen Moore at 149. Moore, who suffered a tough one-point loss last night, rebounded to beat Ryan Leonard 5-3. The win improved his overall record to 8-12.
Ted Bristol, who also suffered a one-point defeat last night, gave the Antelopes a 10-9 lead with a 9-1 major decision win over the Argos’ Michael Hader at 157. The win improved his overall record to 8-5.
Mike Fucci followed with another major decision win at 165. It was his 13
th win this season, fourth-best on the team, giving the ‘Lopes a 13-9 lead.

Victor Carazo and No. 7
Ryan Becerra each faced the No. 1 NAIA wrestlers at 174 and 184, respectively. Carazo ran his win streak to nine matches, beating Ross Mosher 4-3. Ryan Becerra followed with a hard fought 5-3 victory over the Argos’ Michael French, extending the dual lead to 16-9. Carazo’s record now stands at 19-3, while Becerra ran his to 16-8.
Eli Arizmendez improved to 9-0 with the ‘Lopes, winning by injury default at 197. He was leading 9-3 at the time of the stoppage.
Peter Anguiano closed out the impressive night for GCU wrestlers with a 5-2 win at heavyweight. His back-to-back wins over the past two nights upped his record to 9-7 for the season.
GCU is now 9-4 in duals this season, having won their last five.
The Antelopes return to action on Jan. 21 with duals against Cal Baptist and San Francisco State in Riverside, Calif.
