MESA – Grand Canyon University junior Georgina Dunn (Peterborough, England , King's School) is among the 72 competitors vying for a title at the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships starting Wednesday at Longbow Golf Club and co-hosted by the City of Mesa and Grand Canyon University.
Twelve teams and 12 other individuals begin play each day at 7:30 a.m. with the championship round Saturday.
“I’m super-excited,” said Dunn, on competing in the national championships. “It’s the best feeling.
“It’s an honor to be here and a privilege to represent Grand Canyon.”
Dunn finished seventh at the NCAA West Region and is the first GCU national qualifier since Jessica McKay made the event, and finished 26th, in 2008. Prior to the region, Dunn won the Tarleton Coca-Cola Collegiate in Texas.
“Since we are hosting, it’s nice to have a representative,” said GCU coach Marc Chandonnet. “Georgina has played great this year and we’re looking forward to having a good week.”
This is the first time Mesa has hosted an NCAA Championships event.
