Jessica McKay is tied for eighth place after Monday's first round of the Lady Otter Spring Invitational hosted by McKayCal State Monterey Bay.
A senior at Grand Canyon, McKay (pictured) shot 81 on the par-73 Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course. She is 10 strokes behind Scandavian Amateur's Anjelika Hammar, who grabbed the first-round lead with a two-under 71. Hammar is the only competitor who shot under par in the adverse conditions.
Monterey Bay's Lauren Grounds and Tarleton State's Andrea Lowe are tied for second after carding 77s. Cal Baptist's Malen Thorberg shot 79 to settle into fourth place.
Grand Canyon sits in ninth as a team after shooting 362. Scandavian Amateur leads the event with a 318. Monterey Bay is second, two strokes back and Tarleton State third at 322.
