Steve Slattery is entering his second season as Volunteer Assistant Coach in 2017. Slattery will assist the cross country programs as well as track and field steeplechasers.
Slattery began his professional steeplechase career in 2003 after he signed with Nike and won the national title in steeplechase (8:23.58) at the USA Outdoor Championships.
Slattery graduated from Colorado in 2002 with a degree in a in economics and minor in business. He competed for the Buffaloes in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track and field programs.
During his time in Colorado, he finished runner-up in the 2002 USA and NCAA Outdoor Championships. In 2001, the steeplechase specialist was crowned 2001 Big 12 Champion. The same year, Slattery placed 28th at the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The former Buff currently holds the Colorado steeplechase record set at the 2001 USA Track and Field Championships (8:26.45). He holds five of the top-10 finishes at steeplechase set in the Colorado track and field records. In 2000, Slattery was part of the fastest four-mile relay team in school history (16:19.85).
Slattery is from Flanders, N.J. where he attended Mt. Olive High School, earning four All-American titles and six All-State honors. He made his international debut in 1998 at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, finishing 40th in the junior race.
