Shanice Lewis is starting her second season as a member of the 2021-22 coaching staff for the Grand Canyon University track and field team. Lewis is a graduate assistant that will put her focus towards coaching sprints and hurdles.
In 2021, Lewis helped coach the men's and women's teams to a WAC Outdoor Championship sweep, as the women came home with their fourth outdoor title and the men won their third outdoor title.Â
Lewis volunteered as a coach with Glenarden Track Club from 2019-20 in Lanham, Md., while working at a shipping company in Washington D.C.
Previously, Lewis attended Grand Canyon University as a student-athlete from 2018-19, where she earned her degree in sociology. As a Lope, Lewis played a significant part to winning four consecutive WAC team titles.
At the 2019 WAC Indoor Championships, Lewis finished runner-up in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles. In addition, Lewis finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2019 WACÂ Outdoor Championships with a personal best and entering with the fourth fastest time.
Lewis began her collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College. She set a personal record in the long jump during her time in Council Bluff, Iowa.Â
Before college, Lewis attended Edwin Allen high school in Clarendon, Jamaica. In 2015, Lewis competed at the PanAm World Junior Championships in the long jump.
Lewis will be using her expertise to contribute to the Lopes as she pursues a master's degree in business analytics.
