STANFORD, Calif. – Day 2 of The Goodwin concluded Friday at Stanford Golf Course with Grand Canyon shooting an 8-over-par second round to be in 20th place among 30 teams.
GCU is 15 over for the tournament and ahead of No. 18 Georgia Tech in the standings while not being too far back from No. 50 Little Rock (four strokes) and No. 39 Washington (five strokes).
No. 24 BYU moved up three spots to take the overall lead at 12 under, along with No. 35 UCLA, who shot up six spots on moving day.
The biggest mover of the day for the Lopes was sophomore
Matthew Diehl, who catapulted 47 spots after a 1-under second round. Diehl – and all Lopes – began the day on the 10th hole and birdied the par 4 while tacking on one more birdie with six pars on his back nine. He is 4 over for the tournament in 78th.
GCU sophomore
Gavin O'Neill maintained his top-30 placement at 28th with an even-par score after two rounds. He tallied three of his four birdies on the back nine and ended his day with five straight pars for a 1-over day. His placement in the standings is above 10 nationally ranked players.
Classmate Måns Boje matched O'Neill's output of 1 over Friday and climbed 12 spots in the standings. Boje had four birdies, two each on the front and back, and is 61st overall at 3 over par.
GCU sophomore
Nixon Lauritzen is 119th at 8 over while freshman teammate
Daniel Nilsson is 148th at 15 over.
The Lopes' 110 pars are tied for fifth most in a stacked field.
The third and final round concludes Saturday. GCU then will head back to Arizona to partake in the two-day Cowboy Classic, which will be played Tuesday and Wednesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa.
