Grand Canyon continues its homestand with the third of five consecutive matches at GCU Stadium, hosting Sacramento State at 7 p.m. Thursday.
AT A GLANCE
- GCU is coming off two wins over a five-day span, scoring five goals while allowing two in 2-1 and 3-1 victories. Both wins occurred in come-from-behind fashion, trailing 1-0 in each match before a flurry of second-half goals came with 20 minutes or fewer remaining.
- Lopes freshman forward Junior Diouf is tied for fourth in the nation in goals (three) and tied for fifth in points (seven), notching all three goals in the second half of play.Â
- Diouf became the first freshman to score two goals in the same match (Aug. 21 vs. Jacksonville)Â since Jorge Lopez did it on Sept. 20, 2023, vs. Houston Christian.
- GCU freshman Max Kiefer and junior Allan Rosales scored their first career Division I goals against Cleveland State.Â
- Graduate forward Ben Assane tallied an assist in each of the first two games this season. Assane tied for the team lead in assists a season ago, and now has seven assists in 18 games at GCU.
- The Lopes lead the WAC and rank 25th nationally in corner kicks per game (7.0 per game). GCU totaled nine on Monday versus Cleveland State for its largest total since Oct. 22, 2023.

- The Lopes improved to 2-0 with their second straight come-from-behind victory of the season, defeating Cleveland State 3-1.
- Diouf, Rosales, and Kiefer scored, with Rosales' goal being the game-winner in the 71st minute.
- GCU outshot the Vikings 16-2, including 11-0 in the second half.Â
- Lopes freshman goalkeeper Gavin Atkinson earned his second win in goal.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
- The Hornets are 0-1-1, drawing 1-1 at home versus Utah Tech and falling 5-1 to nationally ranked Stanford in their opener.Â
- Donovan Sessoms has seven of Sacramento State's 18 shots with one goal and an assist for a team-best three points.Â
- GCU is the first of three WAC schools that the Hornets will face in a four-match stretch, with Utah Valley and San Jose State matches coming in early September.
