The new era of Grand Canyon men's soccer will begin this fall as a member of the Mountain West Conference.
GCU competed as members of the WAC since 2013 and will follow suit with nearly all of the other Lopes programs that joined the Mountain West for 2025-26. The 2026 season will be the first men's soccer season for the Mountain West, the first conference to add men's soccer since 2023.
Six teams make up the conference, with five members coming from last season's WAC — GCU, Utah Tech, San José State, UNLV and Air Force. UC Davis also will compete in the MW as a new full-time conference member for 2026-27.
GCU is coming off a Sweet 16 season in which it won the WAC Tournament title with three wins in a one-week span. The Lopes then opened the NCAA Tournament by defeating UCLA (0-0, 3-1 penalty kicks) in Los Angeles and following it with a 2-1 win at No. 9 San Diego (2-1) in the second round for the program's first Sweet 16 visit.
Among the four other former WAC schools joining the conference, the Lopes went 3-0-3 including postseason play against them a season ago. The Lopes' season ended with a 1-0 loss at Portland in the NCAA Tournament's third round.
While GCU begins a new era in a new conference, it will also begin Jamie Davies' tenure as head coach after his December 2025 hire. In the past two seasons as North Florida head coach, Davies' teams reached the NCAA Tournament twice by winning ASUN regular-season and postseason titles in each season there.
All of Grand Canyon's men's soccer conference matches will be streamed on a new Mountain West subscription streaming platform.
