Lopes play 3rd game in California this season, split prior 2 visits
AT A GLANCE
- Playing on the road for the first time since Aug. 23, Grand Canyon heads back to California to take on CSU Northridge in the Lopes' final nonconference matchup of the season.
- GCU ranks in the top 10 nationally for shots on goal per game (third, 19.0), corner kicks per game (seventh, 8.0) and shots per game (third, 19.0). GCU finished with a double-digit shot tally in every match this season, including five straight with 15 or more.
- Twelve Lopes have registered a point this season, led by freshman forward Arnau Camaño with six. Eight players have scored a goal, while six have tallied an assist.
- Senior midfielder Jorge Lopez tallied his team-best third assist of the season against UC Santa Barbara, improving his career total to 12. That total is tied for second for career assists in the program's Division I era (since 2013). He is tied with Justin Rasmussen and trails Marco Alfonso for the D-I era lead.
- Camaño leads the Mountain West in shot accuracy (.643), a number also good for 27th in the nation. His 1.29 shots on goal per game ranks 35th nationally and first in the conference.
- Freshman goalkeeper AJ Mather-Nash has made six saves through his first two career starts, stopping a season-best four shots against California Baptist last time out.
- Wednesday marks the 23rd meeting between the two programs. GCU's first-ever soccer match occurred on Sept. 13, 1985 in Riverside, California, against CBU.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Lopes totaled 17 shots for their fifth straight match with 15 or more shots.
- GCU fell 1-0 to California Baptist in the final match of a five-game homestand.
SCOUTING CSU NORTHRIDGE
- CSUN enters Sunday evening 3-3-1 overall and a 2-1-1 record at Matador Field. It fell to MW program San José State 1-0 on Thursday.
- The Matadors are 0-2-1 against shared competition with GCU this season. Its time came against Houston Christian on Sept. 4.
- Two top-25 teams in terms of shots per game meet up on Sunday. CSUN ranks 21st with 16.14 per contest, while also leading the BIg West with 6.4 shots per game.
- CSUN ranks first and second in the Big West in assists (14) and goals (12), respectively.
- Kayvon Monfared has three goals this season, one of nine scorers for the Matadors. He is one of four Matadors with a double-digit shot total, compared to GCU's five.
WHAT'S NEXT?
- The Lopes host UNLV in their first-ever Mountain West matchup on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
- GCU moved to the Mountain West this summer after competing in the WAC since 2013.
