Grand Canyon women's golf head coach
Brent Nicoson announced the signing of incoming freshman Alexis Vakasiuola of Arizona and Texas State transfer Allie Justiz.
The name Vakasiuola is a familiar one to the GCU program, as Alyzzah earned All-WAC second-team honors in 2024-25. Her younger sister, Alexis, joins the Lopes program as a true freshman after attending Combs High School, which is southeast of Phoenix.
The San Tan Valley native is coming off a second-place finish at the 2024 Division 2 girls golf state championship in the fall, when the Combs senior carded rounds of 69 and 70. She was one of three players among the 78-player field to have two rounds under par at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
As a junior, Vakasiuola finished fourth at the 2023 state championship, notching scores of 71 and 72 at Aguila. That same season, she won the 2023 South Pacific Games gold medal.
"I'm really excited to add another player who will make an immediate impact," Nicoson said. "Alexis is a powerful player who is comfortable under par. I'm thrilled to add another Vakasiuola to our roster. She comes from a great family. Our culture got better with the signing of Alexis."
Justiz enters 2025-26 as a sophomore after spending her first collegiate season at Texas State. There in San Marcos, Justiz competed in four tournaments and helped the Bobcats to their highest finish at the Jim West Challenge, tying for 16th individually at 3 under par. She averaged 76.1 strokes per round with a career-low round of 69.
Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, Justiz was selected to
The Oklahoman's 2023 all-city first team for the Oklahoma City area. Justiz was a state runner-up who won three high school tournaments and finished top three in each tourney whil at Bishop McGuiness Catholic High School.
"I am excited to have Allie join us at GCU," Nicoson said. "She is a great player and an exceptional student, which will only add to a great culture we have. I believe in her and think she will thrive here in Phoenix."
