COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Grand Canyon senior
Cam Wilmington punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene with a qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday night at the NCAA West First Round.

With a time of 50.12 seconds, Wilmington finished 12th in a round where the top 12 advance to the NCAA Championships. He will run in the semifinal round of NCAAs at Hayward Field on Wednesday, June 11, at 6:14 p.m.
Wilmington advanced from Wednesday's round of 48 entries to reach Friday's round of 24 at Texas A&M. With the top three of each of Friday's three heats automatically advancing, Wilmington's fourth-place finish in his heat made things interesting. But after the completion of the event, Wilmington held one of the three fastest times by those who did not automatically qualify.
Although GCU has sent 16 athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Division I level, Wilmington is the first to do so in a men's track event.
Also on Friday, GCU had a few men's entries miss the cut for Eugene. The 4x100-meter relay team finished with a time of 40.04 in 18th place. Lopes junior
Miguel Rosario III posted a personal-best time (20.59) but finished 17th in the 200 meters. Graduate
Daviciea McCartney was in the mix for a top-three finish in his 400-meter hurdles heat, but his right leg gave out on his final hurdle landing. GCU's 4x400-meter relay narrowly missed qualification, finishing 14th with a mark of 3 minutes, 6.77 seconds.
GCU did not have any women advance from Thursday's preliminary rounds.
Lopes senior
Lucy George did not record a mark in the javelin. After becoming a late addition to the field, GCU junior
Amanda Thrue finished in 44th with a mark of 13.91 in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 400 meters, senior
Aaliyah Rifort-Delem (36th, 53.92) and junior
Taliyah Booker (54.94) closed out their seasons.
GCU's final competitor was senior
Jazmine Scott, who took 36th in the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, 11 3/4 inches.
