Grand Canyon alumnus and 2024 WAC Player of the Year
Nicky Kling felt right at home in his last Asher Tour event, posting an 18-under GCU Classic scorecard at GCU Golf Course to win the event by two strokes.
Kling, an instrumental piece to the Lopes' 2023 and 2024 WAC championships, notched rounds of 65, 67 and 63 on the par-71 layout to win by two strokes over Michael Feagles. Kling's 8-under 63 on Thursday was tied for the event's lowest round over the three days, starting May 20.
Kling's knowledge of the golf course came into play throughout the tournament, carding only two bogeys over 54 holes. Kling helped lead the Lopes to three straight top-three finishes when he competed at the annual GCU Invitational during the spring seasons, including the home event's team title among 23 teams in 2022.
Kling is one of three golfers in program history to compete in two NCAA regional tournaments. He became the second golfer in school history to earn WAC Player of the Year, joining Vinnie Murphy, who did so in 2017 and 2018.
