Lopes middle of pack after 36 holes in Oregon

Lauritzen, Coelho top 25; GCU 5 back of 5th place
After a sunny day at the Eugene Country Club near the campus of the University of Oregon, nationally ranked Grand Canyon carded a team score of 3 over par through 36 holes at the Duck Invitational.
GCU sits in eighth place, scoring even par through the first 18 and 3 over in the second round. The final round concludes tomorrow morning with 18 holes.
The Lopes entered the tournament nationally ranked at No. 46, its first tournament entering a tournament with a nationally ranked tag since the Clippd Scoreboard rankings became the official NCAA ranking system prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.
No. 36 Oregon and St. Mary's are tied for the lead at 9 under, with Wyoming three strokes back in third place. GCU, seeking its sixth top 5 showing this season, trails fifth place San Jose State by five strokes.
Freshman Nixon Lauritzen leads the squad with a 2 under card, tied for 13th out of 91 players. Lauritzen had back-to-back 1 under rounds with seven birdies combined. The first-year golfer shot even par combined on the front nine over both rounds.
Senior Kiko Coelho is two strokes behind Lauritzen at even par, tied for 21st overall. Coelho began his day with a double bogey on the par 5, sixth hole, but zoned in to shoot 2 under with five birdies over round one. Coelho tallied nine birdies on the day and shot 2 over in round two.
Recent GCU Invitational champion Tommaso Zorzetto is tied for 32nd at 2 over, with 1 over scores in each round. Zorzetto notched six birdies and went 1 under with eight pars on the back nine in his second round.
Freshman Matthew Diehl and senior Josh McCabe round out the starting five in a tie for 54th at 5 over. Diehl went 2 over and 3 over, respectively, for the day, with McCabe bouncing back from a 4 over round one with a 1 over second, tallying five birdies in the process.
GCU is fourth among the 15-team field in par 3 scoring (3.05) and fifth in par 4 scoring (4.09). The Lopes had the second most pars among the field with 116. Coelho is tied for seventh with the most birdies (9).
