Owning a four match unbeaten streak with three straight wins, Grand Canyon closes out its road trip at California Baptist Sunday evening in Riverside.Â
Freshman Junior Diouf has proved to be one of the best players in the country, ranking second in goals (11) and fourth in points (25). Diouf was named to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, an award given to the National Player of the Year. Diouf was one of 31 players named and one of two freshmen.Â
Graduate Ben Assane notched his fifth assist of the season Thursday against San Diego State, and now ranks 30th in the nation and third in the WAC in that category. Assane's 10 career assists as a Lope are tied for fourth most in the program's D-I era.
GCU has not allowed more than one goal in any game this season and has three shutouts to its name, all coming from Daniel Ibarra. The defensive side of the ball ranks 21st in the country and second in the WAC in goals against average (.727). Ibarra had two saves in a 1-0 shutout win over SDSU Thursday and is seventh in the country in save percentage (.727).
GCU has won seven games at home and holds a 7-1 record at GCU Stadium to date. It is the most wins at GCU Stadium since the facility opened in 2016, trailing only the 2021 team that won nine. The Lopes are 1-1-1 on the road this season, earning their first road win of the 2025 campaign Thursday in San Diego.Â
Thursday's match at San Diego State was the first where the Lopes did not tally a double digit shot total. They rank third in the WAC with just over 14 shots per contest.Â
The offense averages 5.6 points per game, spreading the wealth with 21 assists on the season to go along with 20 goals, both of which rank third in the WAC. The 5.6 points per game are 40th in the nation and second in the league.Â
GCU has outscored its opposition 8-2 during its four match unbeaten streak.Â
