United Soccer Coaches rankings pin GCU in top 25
Grand Canyon men's soccer opens a new chapter this fall under first-year head coach Jamie Davies, and that story will start with a No. 21 national ranking via the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.
GCU finished 21st in last season's final rankings after a 14-4-5 season that saw them advance to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the first time in the program's Division I history.
The Lopes begin play Aug. 20 at Stanford in a matchup of preseason top-25 teams with the Cardinal being tabbed No. 9 in the poll. GCU hosts UC Riverside on Aug. 28 for its home opener, one of five consecutive matches the Lopes will play at GCU Stadium through Sept. 16.
The 2026 Lopes squad returns key pieces from the 2025 team, including senior midfielders Jorge Lopez and Martin Luala as well as junior forward Alan Hermitte. Lopez has scored seven goals and added nine assists in three seasons at GCU, while Luala was drafted with the 28th pick of the MLS SuperDraft's first round by San Diego FC before opting to return for his senior season.
