Grand Canyon men's golf volunteer assistant coach
Jesse Mueller is headed to Louisville, Kentucky, this month for the PGA Championship, his fourth PGA major appearance.
Mueller earned a spot in the PGA Tour major, which will be May 16-19, by tying for fourth place Wednesday in the PGA Professional Championship. Mueller, the GCU Golf Course General Manager, fired a four-round, 2-over-par score this week at Fields Ranch in Frisco, Texas,
In a field of 312 players, Mueller was one of the top finishers who will compose the PGA Corebridge Financial Team and gained an invitation to the PGA Championship, one of four PGA majors.
The PGA Championship will be Mueller's fourth major appearance and his second PGA Tour event this season. At the WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale in February, Mueller not only made the cut and finished tied for 66th at 1 under, but he arguably had the shot of the tournament on the famous stadium 16th hole, putting his tee shot within 1 foot of the cup to the delight of the hometown crowd.
Mueller, who has played in 14 PGA Tour events, previously appeared in the PGA Championship in 2022, as well as the 2012 and 2022 U.S. Open tournaments.
Mueller had 14 birdies in total at the PGA Professional Championship, carding an even-par 72 in the final round. After starting Tuesday at 3 over, Mueller carded two birdies over his third round's final three holes to take momentum into Wednesday's final round. Mueller closed the tournament with eight consecutive pars to secure the PGA Championship spot and an event purse of $28,750.
The PGA Championship will be held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville from May 16-19. The first round can be watched on ESPN+, followed by ESPN later in the day.
