SEDONA, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team finished third in the Red Rocks Invitational at the Oakcreek Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
The top-three finish is the seventh of the season for the Lopes. GCU has competed in eight tournaments this season and has finished in the top five in all eight with two tournaments remaining before the WAC Championship in Payson, Arizona, on April 19-21.
The Lopes shot 19 over for the tournament to finish three strokes off first-place teams Seattle U and Northern Arizona, the host.
Junior
Leighton Shosted finished best for GCU, carding a 3-over-par tournament with a 2-under final round that tied her for 16th. Shosted tallied seven pars and a birdie over her first eight holes and finished the round with four birdies and nine for the tournament. One stroke behind Shosted was senior
Becca Tschetter, who finished 4 over with 13 birdies, including five each in the first and third rounds.
GCU senior
Carly Strole carded a 6-over tournament total to tie for 24th, followed by sophomore teammate
Ryan Flynn, who finished in a tie for 34th at 8 over par. The duo combined for 12 birdies, including seven in the first round. Lopes senior
Constanza Guerrero tied for 90th at 20 over, while sophomore teammate
Amelia Curtis finished in a tie for 66th at 15 over as an individual entry.
The Lopes will take a week off before resuming play Monday, March 25, at the Fresno State Classic in Fresno, California. GCU will return home for its final regular-season tournament in Goodyear, Arizona, for the Bobcat Desert Classic on April 8-10.
