Sedona, Arizona – Less than a week after capturing the Women's Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nevada, Grand Canyon heads back to its home state and travels to Sedona to partake in the two-day Red Rocks Invitational.
The Oakcreek Country Club will play host to the 20-team field. GCU knows the course well, taking second place in last year's Red Rocks Tournament. Of the teams, the Lopes rank the highest in the country at No. 78, moving up five spots following its first-place finish in Nevada. GCU is 97-7 overall, notching three straight top-two finishes this spring season.
GCU is one of three WAC teams to be competing in the tournament, joined by Seattle U and Southern Utah. The rest of field includes Northern Illinois, Cal State Northridge, Missouri State, Montana State, Navy, Creighton, Eastern Washington, North Dakota State, Weber State, Northern Arizona, Wichita State, Montana, Cal State Fullerton, Illinois State, Northern Colorado, Idaho, and Lipscomb.
The Lopes will field the same team that won the Women's Jackrabbit Invitational, led by senior
Carly Strole, who finished second place overall at 7 under. All five Lopes finished in the top-15, which included seniors
Constanza Guerrero,
Becca Tschetter, junior
Leighton Shosted and sophomore
Ryan Flynn. Sophomore
Amelia Curtis will also compete as an individualist for the second consecutive tournament.
GCU has four total wins this season, with victories in Utah, Washington, Nevada and in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
