The Grand Canyon track and field team swept the WAC weekly awards Wednesday following an assertive weekend.
GCU graduate transfer
Neysia Howard took the WAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor for the third time this season after leading the conference in the 200-meter run with a 23.83-second time, which leads the WAC. While in Spokane, Washington, Howard also had a 60 time of 7.47 seconds, which is No. 1 in the conference. In addition, the Arizona transfer was a part of the 4x400 relay which recorded a time of 3:45.49.
Lopes senior
Erin Brown is the WAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week after running the conference's fastest 200 time this season (20.76) and third-fastest 60 time (6.70). Brown's 200 mark is the second fastest in the West Region and 13th fastest in the NCAA. This marks the Dallas native's second WAC weekly honor of the season.
GCU senior
Summer Grubbs took the WAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor after a conference-leading performance of 3,840 points in the pentathlon last week at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis. Grubbs score was also a school record.
Lopes junior
Eric Cabais-Fernandez won his second WAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor after a pole vault performance of 5.26 meters in Spokane. The mark is the best in the conference this season and 37th best in the NCAA.
GCU's indoor season still has the Don Kirby Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the WAC Indoor Championships take place on Feb. 19 and 20.
