ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Grand Canyon track and field team closed out the indoor regular season Saturday at the UNM Don Kirby Invitational with strong efforts by multiple athletes.
With many Lopes staying home to rest for the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb.19-20, the GCU team that traveled set numerous personal and season bests, led by
Jack Hodge in pole vault. The graduate student became the WAC leader with a mark of 5.27 meters and a season best.
Lopes freshman
Gretchen Kuffel finished the 3,000-meter race with a season-best time of 10 minutes, 19.33 seconds. On the men's side, freshman
Emmanuel Corral of Tucson, Arizona, ran his season best with a time of 8:50.10.
GCU freshman
Aaron Johnson ran well in the 200 with a personal-best time of 21.69.
The Lopes'
Hannah Blood, a senior, tied her season best in the weight throw with a distance of 18.13 meters.
Sophomore
Kane Duong added a personal best in shot put with a mark of 14.07.
Next up for the GCU track and field team, the Lopes will return to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 19-20, when they will look to add to the men's seven consecutive WAC indoor titles and the women's five titles in the last seven conference meets.
