Head coach
Mark Mueller and the Grand Canyon men's golf team signed two golfers for the 2025-26 season.
Both players come from overseas. Harry Cox of Welwyn Garden City, England, and Daniel Nilsson of Oslo, Norway, will make the trip to Arizona next year to compete as freshman beginning in August 2025.
"We are very excited to add these two young men to our program," said Muller. "Coach Schaloum did a fantastic job of targeting these two guys and both are very accomplished golfers."
"We're incredibly grateful that both of these great young men are trusting us and GCU with being a part of their futures," said Schaloum.
Cox's previous playing experience includes being a part of the 2024-25 England Boys squad. His accomplishments on the course include reaching the semifinals of the R&A (Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews) Boys Division, winning the boys and men's championships, capturing the county championship three years in a row in the men's division and placing first at a professional event on the Thomson Tour, shooting 10 under over two rounds.
"Harry is one of the best junior golfers in the world at the moment, as proven by his European ranking of 8th in Europe for U18's" Schaloum said. "He is not only technically sound buthas a better on course demeanor than a majority of professionals."
Like Cox, Nilsson enters Phoenix with national team experience, being a member of Team Norway for what will be five consecutive years soon. He represented the Norwegian flag at the European Boys Team Championship and helped his team win the national team championship, carding a final round of 65 to lift the trophy. Nilsson also tied for eighth place in French Boys U18 stroke play with a single-round tournament low of 67 (5 under) and won the Order of Merit on the Srixon Tour.
"Daniel is an elite ball striker with a. world class work ethic who knows what it takes to be a high performing athlete," said Schaloum. "His mental and physical preparation for the game is outstanding, and he has a very high ceiling in golf and life."
"These two guys have won a lot of golf tournaments," said Mueller. "They have done very well in high pressure situations, and both have a high motor, which is something both coach Schaloum and I are looking for. I am excited for them to get to Phoenix and take advantage of our weather and great facilities and perfect their craft here at GCU."
GCU has won back-to-back WAC Championships and will aim for a three-peat this spring with the campaign kicking off Feb. 13 in Lihue, Kaua'i. The WAC Championship will be held at Chaparral Pines in Payson, Arizona, on April 25-27, at the same course where the Lopes claimed the trophy last season.
