GCU sophomore won 100 backstroke, butterfly, 400 freestyle relay

Grand Canyon sophomore Alex Volkov was named WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week after winning three events and also recording a second-place finish on Saturday when the Lopes defeated UC San Diego at host California Baptist.

The Israel native won the 100-yard backstroke (47.75 seconds), 100 butterfly (47.36) and the 400 freestyle relay (2 minutes, 59.97 seconds) on Saturday against CBU and UCSD. In addition, Volkov was part of the second-place finish for the Lopes in the 200 medley relay, which was first at 1:29.62.

Volkov will look toward the final home meet of the year on Feb. 3, when the Lopes compete against reigning WAC men's champion UNLV for GCU's Senior Day.
