Lope alum Kline wins Twin Cities Open

2016 graduate cards 8 under par for PGA Minnesota Section event at Edina CC
Continuing with the theme of winning for the Grand Canyon men's golf team, alumnus Alex Kline shot an 8 under par in the two-day Twin Cities Open Championship at the Edina Country Club in Edina, Minnesota, last month.

A 2016 GCU graduate from Ramsey, Minnesota, Kline was an All-WAC second-team recipient his senior year under current head coach Mark Mueller. Kline helped lead the Lopes to an unofficial third-place finish at the WAC Championship during the 2015-16 season. GCU was in the transition period from Division II to I from 2013-2017.

Kline helped paved the way for the Lopes' current success, which included recently winning the WAC Championship for the first time in program history. Kline's tournament win on May 22 is also the second of the summer for a Lope affiliate, joining junior Sam Murphy, who won the Connacht Men's Championship in Portumna, Ireland, in early June.

Kline shot a 3-under first round with seven birdies, including four on the back nine in Edina. He shot even better in the second round, tallying six birdies with four over his final seven holes to shoot 5 under par for the 8-under total.

The victory is the fourth of his professional career. He tied for first at the Alan Hanson Scholarship Pro-Am last August and took first in the Premier Banks Pro Member tournament in August of 2021. Later that same year, he tied for first at the Luther Pro-Series Tour Championship.

"I am really happy for Alex, as he was a great player for GCU and has continued to win at the professional level," Mueller said.

Kline is in his second year as an assistant coach at St. Thomas, a Division I program in Minnesota.
