After a historic WAC Championship last weekend in Nevada, the Lopes garnered four All-WAC postseason accolades with head coach
Mark Mueller earning WAC Coach of the Year.
Â
Among the GCU winners were fifth-year senior
Parker Reddig, who was named to the All-WAC first team, and senior
Matthew Braley and junior
Nicky Kling, who each earned a spot on the All-WAC second team. The Lopes' four awards tied the 2017 squad for most in a single season since the Division I era began in 2013-14.
Â
The WAC Coach of the Year award is the first for GCU since joining the WAC in 2013. Mueller led the Lopes to a record-breaking championship weekend, when the team won the tournament title for the first time in program history. GCU tied the WAC Championship record for lowest team score over a 54-hole format as it shot 34 under par at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. GCU had five top-five finishes on the season, including a team victory at the Visit Stockton Invitational in October.
Â
Reddig joined the squad last summer and made an immediate impact as he recorded four top-20 finishes, including two top-five showings. In his first event as a Lope, Reddig tied for sixth at the Wildcat Invitational and then finished second at the Visit Stockton Invitational. Reddig had a career weekend at the WAC Championship, shooting 10 under par with a 6-under final round to guide the Lopes to the trophy. He tied for fourth place with four birdies on the back nine in Sunday's final round.
Â
Braley notches his second career All-WAC award after being named to the second team last season. In his final college season of a five-year Lopes career, Braley showed his leadership and confidence with five top-20 finishes, including four in the top 10. His best showing was a 9-under-par weekend when he tied for third at the Visit Stockton Invitational. He placed ninth at the GCU Invitational and was the captain heading into the WAC Championship, where he tied for 11th at 6 under with a 2-under scorecard in the final round.
Â
Kling earns his first conference accolade after four top-20 finishes and two top-10 placements. Kling shot 13 under in the Nick Watney Invitational with two birdies and an eagle in his final round and earned seventh at the GCU Invitational to help the Lopes tie for second. Kling tied for 14th at the WAC Championship with a 3-under-par card that included nine birdies and a team-best two eagles.
Â
The Lopes await their NCAA regional destination with the selection show airing Wednesday at 10 a.m. (Phoenix time) on Golf Channel. First-round regional action begins Monday, May 15, with the third and final round concluding Wednesday, May 17.
