TUCSON, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon track and field team had three athletes compete in all of their events this weekend at the Jim Click Multis between the first decathlon and first heptathlon of the season.
For the men,
Ellis Nei finished the weekend with a final score of 5,792 points to take eighth place in the decathlon. Nei, a sophomore from Virginia, finished fourth in the javelin portion of the competition with a distance of 48.17 meters.
In addition,
Aidan Diggs and
Patrick Nelson competed in select events. Diggs took fourth in the 100-meter dash while Nelson placed third in the 400-meter dash.
For the women, junior
Summer Grubbs broke a school record with her heptathlon score of 5,260 points. Grubbs finished first in the 200-meter dash portion and second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Camdyn Bruner placed third in the shot put and 200-meter dash events. Bruner finished the heptathlon with 5,038 points.
The rest of the Lopes will be back in action next week at Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Torrance and Azusa, California.
