The Grand Canyon women's golf team continues the spring campaign in its home state, competing in the Red Rocks Invitational at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
First and second round play begins Saturday with the third and final round concluding Sunday afternoon. The tournament is hosted by Northern Arizona University.
The Lopes enter the tournament with three straight top-3 finishes, including third place in both the Valley Invitational and GCU Invitational as well as a first place showing earlier in the week at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nev. GCU has had two WAC Golfer of the Week recipients in that span, with
Lani Luafalealo and
Constanza Guerrero earning the accolade Mar. 1 and Mar. 15, respectively.
Among the 20-team field, GCU ranks second highest at No. 100 in the most recent Golfstat rankings. Only Gonzaga (No. 83) ranks higher. The field includes WAC schools Utah Tech, California Baptist and Southern Utah.
The Lopes field the same roster that won earlier this week in Nevada, with
Carmen Belmonte, Guerrero,
Carly Strole,
Ryan Flynn,
Becca Tschetter and
Kailey Bass competing.
