The Grand Canyon transfers were the stars of the conference this week as
Umajesty Williams and
Keira Christie-Galloway won the WAC track athlete of the week honors.
Williams had a time of 46.85 seconds in the 400-meter event which is the fastest in the Western Athletic Conference and 38th best in the NCAA.
The Arizona transfer competed for the Wildcats for four years before transferring to become a Lope. Williams is originally from Scottsdale, Ariz. so coming to GCU was a homecoming of sorts.
Williams also has contributed this indoor season as a member of the men's 4x400 meter relay team that recently obliterated their former school record in the event with a time of 3:07.89. That time is currently the 13th-fastest time in the country and is just 1.2Â seconds from the TCU conference record that was set in 2000.
Â
Christie-Galloway had a time of 8.24 in the 60m hurdles which is the fastest in the WAC and 35
th fastest in the NCAA. This is also a new personal best.
The Arizona State transfer has now broken the GCU 60-meter hurdles school record five times already this season. Â
Both of the WAC track athletes of the week will compete this weekend at the UNM Don Kirby Elite Invitational Friday and Saturday.Â
