The Grand Canyon women's golf team is set to host the 10th annual GCU Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, when 17 teams and 95 players will compete over a two-day, 54-hole stretch of golf at GCU Golf Course.
The Lopes have won the GCU Invitational three years in a row, shooting a course-record 860 (4 under par) last season. GCU claimed two of the past three individual champions with
Alexis Linam winning in 2020 and 2022.
Of the 17 teams competing, GCU ranks fourth highest in the recent Golfstat rankings at 117. Delaware enters with the highest rank at 104, followed by UTEP at 107 and Louisiana Monroe at 114. Other WAC schools competing in the tournament include Seattle U, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and Tarleton.
The first round will begin Monday at 8 a.m., followed by the second round approximately 30 minutes after all golfers complete the first round. The third and final round begins Tuesday at 8 a.m.
The Lopes are coming off a top-three finish in their spring debut two weeks ago, when they placed third out of 13 schools in the Valley Invitational. Freshman
Ryan Flynn took sixth place out of the 77-player field as the team shot the tourney's best third round at 8 over, six shots better than the day's second lowest score.
Flynn is joined by juniors
Carly Strole,
Constanza Guerrero and
Becca Tschetter and senior
Carmen Belmonte on the course this week. All GCU golfers will compete in the home event, with Lani Luafaleleao,
Amelia Curtis,
Kailey Bass and
Diletta Facchini entering as individuals.
