MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team finished third out of a field of 15 teams Tuesday after a two-day, three-round Wildcat Invitational near Kansas State.
Two Lopes finished in the top 15, including fifth-year senior
Parker Reddig, who competed in his first GCU event. Reddig carded a three-day total of 3-under-par 213 (73-68-72) to finish tied for sixth. Junior teammate
Nicky Kling tied for 11th, recording a three-day score of even-par 216 (72-69-75).
GCU senior
Matthew Braley rebounded after an opening round of 78 with back-to-back 73s to finish 8 over par in a tie for 27th. Lopes sophomore
Josh McCabe tied with Braley at 8 over with rounds of 69, 78 and 77. Sophomore
Sam Murphy jumped seven spots on the final day and finished tied for 50th with a 13-over 229.
Junior
Tommaso Zorzetto played as an individual for the Lopes. His score did not count toward the team score but placed individually alongside Braley and McCabe in a tie for 27th.
After Monday's first two rounds, GCU sat in third place and kept that same position after a final round of 8-over 872 on Tuesday. Host school Kansas State won at 27 under (837), followed by North Dakota State with an even-par 864 in second place.
The Lopes are back on the course toward the end of the month in the Nick Watney Invitational, which will be Sept. 26-27 in Fresno, Calif. GCU has four remaining fall tournaments before winter break.
