Grand Canyon senior
Israel Oloyede recorded the best collegiate hammer throw of the year to take fifth place at the USA Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

On his third attempt at Hayward Field in Oregon, Oloyede unleashed a throw of 75.1 meters (246 feet, 5 inches) for his career best. It topped the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships winning throw of 73.37 by Southeast Missouri State's Logan Blomquist in June. Ololyede redshirted the outdoor season with GCU this spring but continued training with Lopes assistant coach
Nathan Ott (at left in photo).
Oloyede finished just 15 inches out of fourth place, taking fifth behind four competitors who are 26 years of age or older. Oloyede also recorded two other throws of more than 73 meters, but his 75.1-meter throw ranks seventh this year among all Americans, including pros, and 42nd in the world.
"Thank you @coach_nathan_ott & @gcu_tf @gcu_lopes for this opportunity!!!" Oloyede wrote on Instagram. "The goal was just TOP 5 & we did it!! It's been such a roller coaster of year I'm just happy to finish with a bang! It's OD 🖤 so we keep grinding 🤝'
"Thank you @etherealwellnessandesthetics (my parents) for the never ending support! We keep pushing baby! Lopes Up! 💜"
