Maria Brunlehner traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, to compete in the National Long Course Swimming Championships last weekend at the Kasarani Aquatic Centre.
Â
Muteti was selected to represent Kenya at the Commonwealth Games later this summer in Birmingham, England, after earning qualifying times in her respective events. Muteti, a Bombolulu native, won the 50-meter freestyle with her best time of 28.26 seconds in the finals to qualify. She also swam the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.05 for another victory.
Â
Brunlehner placed second in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:15.95. The Mombasa native also took second in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:24.32. She was the third highest ranked swimmer in Kenya.Â
However, the Kenya Swimming Federation selected a total of eight swimmers to represent Kenya at the Commonwealth Games, but that group has been cut down to four (two women and two men). Mutet will head to Birmingham, England, from July 29-Aug. 3 accompanied by Schaffer to compete in the Games.Â
