Grand Canyon track and field head coach
Tom Flood was named to USA Track & Field's coaching staff for this weekend's World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
Flood, in his 13th season leading the Lopes, will serve as an assistant coach for sprints and hurdles.
"I am thrilled and completely honored to have been selected to coach on a USA national team and to represent our country and university at the highest level at a World Championship," Flood said. "I'm deeply thankful for all the coaches and athletes that have helped me get to this point in my coaching career and I feel truly blessed to get to now work with some of the finest coaches and athletes in our sport."
Flood just led GCU to a sweep of the men's and women's titles at last month's WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. It was the Lopes' sixth consecutive indoor title on the men's side and their fifth in the past six indoor tries for the women's team.
A star-studded USATF roster includes 21 Olympians from the Tokyo Games. This will be the first World Indoor Championships held since 2018, when the event was hosted in Birmingham, England. The 2020 meet was slated for Nanjing, China, but was postponed due to COVID-19.
