Lopes close out day 2 at Nationals

Men in 4th, Women in 9th in team standings

The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming teams made improvements on day two of the CSCAA National Invitational at Elkhart Aquatics Center. GCU men are in fourth place with 348.5 points with the women in ninth place totaling 261.5 points.

The Lopes opened the finals in the 200-yard medley relays. The women swam a time of one minute, 40.91 seconds for a seventh-place finish while the men finished in sixth with a time of 1:28.14.

Adrian Curbelo Tejera and Jack Armstrong finished eight (47.94) and ninth (48.03) in the 100-yard butterfly "A" finals . Dylan Nasser swam a 48.44 in the "B" final earning a seventh-place finish.

Nasser also finished the 100-yard backstroke in 19^th place with a time of 50.11.

GCU junior Mikhail Lyubavskiy had a great performance in the 400-yard individual medley. He placed sixth in the "A" final with a season-best time of 3:52.46.

Classmate Griffin McKean also finished with a season-best time of 3:54.14 in the "B" final.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Dawson Sloan placed 18^th with a time of 1:39.17 for a season-best time.

On the women's side, four women senior Emily Muteti finished 12^th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.95.

Freshman Aleksandra Wegrzynowska completed the 200-yard freestyle in 14th place with a time of 1:48.99.

GCU classmate Maria Brunlehner swam a 1:01.83 in the 100-yard breaststroke "B" final.

Junior Briana Rittenbach added to the Lopes scoring team in the 100 backstroke. She finished 19^th overall with a time of 56.43.

The final day of the NIC will begin tomorrow with prelims at 7:30 a.m. (Phoenix Time).
