Grand Canyon men's and women's track and field hopes to defend what they created last year when the indoor season gets underway next month in defense of their WAC championships.
"This schedule will provide our student-athletes with plenty of competitions to prepare to repeat as conference indoor champions," GCU head coach Tom Flood said.
The Lopes head to Clemson to open the indoor season with goals to set high standards early in the year.
"For the first time in school history, we will be in a December meet," Flood said of the Dec. 2 meet. "We will be taking a small group of senior athletes to Clemson, South Carolina, and the Clemson Opener. It will give our sprinters, hurdlers and mid-distance runners a chance to put some fast, early times on the board before heading into the holidays."
GCU has won six consecutive WAC indoor titles on the men's side, with the women winning five out of the last six. This puts a target on the Lopes' backs with multiple teams vying to dethrone the champions.
GCU will spend plenty of the season at Northern Arizona and New Mexico with the majority of its schedule taking place at those campuses during the indoor season.
"We will look to defend both our men's and women's team titles at the WAC Indoor Championships in Spokane, Washington, at the beautiful, brand-new facility, The Podium, in late February," Flood said. "I'm really excited about this year's indoor schedule and our teams."
