Grand Canyon men's indoor track and field made its first-ever appearance in the top 25 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Rating Index on Monday. The Lopes checked in at No. 18 in the national rankings and fifth in the West Region.
"I am really thrilled that for the first time in our NCAA Division I history, our men's team is nationally ranked," GCU 13th-year head coach
Tom Flood said. "It is a true testament to the hard work of both our athletes and coaches. The good news is that we are only getting started."
The Lopes posted four marks that rank among the nation's 15 best in their respective events, highlighted by senior
Israel Oloyede logging the nation's best mark of 24.45 meters in the weight throw.
With a rating score of 46.45, the Lopes rank one spot behind Arizona State and one spot ahead of Florida. GCU is fifth among mid-major schools.
In the West Region rankings, GCU sits behind only Arizona State, Boise State, Idaho and Eastern Washington.
The women's team fared well in regional rankings also, checking in at No. 8 in the West Region.
