Te Flan, Muteti represent Lopes program at Olympic Games

TOKYO — Grand Canyon swimmers Talita Te Flan and Emily Muteti will represent the Lopes program in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Te Flan, a GCU alumnus, will participate in the 400-meter freestyle, representing Ivory Coast. Muteti is set to participate in the 50 freestyle for Kenya.

"I am swimming for everyone who has supported my journey to where I am today," Muteti told GCULopes.com earlier this week. "This is my highest level of achievement and I can't wait to see what I can do there."

Early Sunday morning in Phoenix, Te Flan swam in the first 400-meter freestyle heat. The GCU alum finished second of three participants in her heat, posting a time of 4 minutes, 38.92 seconds. The top eight of 26 entrants into the event advanced to the finals with the last qualifying swimmer posting a time of 4:04.07.
