Xydona secures annual WAC award

Lopes' senior stands out in overall performances
Grand Canyon senior Niki Xydona won the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award, along with both honors of the High Point Scorer and Outstanding Field Performer at the WAC Outdoor Championships.
The Greece native won the heptathlon at the 2021 WAC Outdoor Championships and also posted top-five finishes in the high jump (third), long jump (fourth) and javelin (fourth).
Earlier this season Xydona beat her personal school record in the heptathlon as she scored 5,073 points at the Aztec Invitational.
The Lopes will take 10 qualified athletes to the NCAA West Regional Championships in College Station, Texas this week for competition.
