The Grand Canyon senior duo of
Autum Prudhomme and
Emilia Occhipinti earned WAC Doubles Players of the Week honors for the third time this season on Tuesday.
Â
The GCU duo extended its 11-match winning streak on Saturday with a win at No. 2 doubles against Northern Arizona. The Lopes had to battle to the very last point against NAU's Gina Dittmann and Elinor Beazley, going all the way to a tiebreaker that Occhipinti and Prudhomme won 9-7.
Â
The senior pair now leads the team with a 13-4 record, which is a career best for both Occhipiniti and Prudhomme. The 11-match winning streak is also a career high for Occhipinti and the second time Prudhomme has reached that mark. Prudhomme also won her final 11 doubles matches as a sophomore in 2018.
Â
The GCU pair will be back in action this weekend at the WAC Tournament, hosted by New Mexico State. The Lopes earned a first-round bye and the No. 1 seed. They will face the winner between No. 4 Chicago State and No. 5 Seattle U on Saturday at 8 a.m. (Phoenix time).
