The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed the first day of the GCU Invitational in first place on Monday.
GCU fired a two-round total of even-par 568, one shot better than Eastern Michigan on a crowded leaderboard. Wichita State (572), North Dakota State (573), CSU Fullerton (574) and Pacific (574) rounded out the top six teams at GCU Championship Golf Course.
The Lopes placed three players in the top six in the medialist race. Senior Trevor Lampson led GCU with a 2-under-par 140 that put him in a tie for third place entering Tuesday's final round. Playing as individuals, GCU seniors Adam Veenstra (140) and Michael Salazar (141) also are in contention.
Lopes senior Marcus Sundlof recorded a tournament high of 12 birdies in 36 holes. Sundlof enters the final round in a tie for 14th place at even par.
Other GCU totals include junior Matthew Polivka's 145, freshman Craig Passmore's 145, freshman Tommaso Zorzetto's 145, freshman Nicky Kling's 146, freshman Oscar Doran's 148 and sophomore Matthew Braley's 151.
