LOS ANGELES – The Grand Canyon's women's swimming team competed in three dual meets on Friday at Burns Aquatic Center against host Loyola Marymount, Seattle U and San Diego State. The women defeated Seattle U, 155-49, and Loyola Marymount, 154-50, but fell to San Diego State 118-76.
Day 1
The Lopes opened the event with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The Lopes relay team of junior

Claire Banic took the win with a time of one minute, 44.87 seconds.
Individually, the GCU women were led by freshman
Aleksandra Wegrzynowska, as she earned a second-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 17:52.50.
Wegrzynowska also swam a new personal best in the 500 freestyle, dropping half a minute off her time (5:10.07). She earned another second-place finish, battling SDSU's Mia Ryan to the end.
Nakashima collected a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.46.
It was a day for improvements.
Rittenbach earned a new personal best in the 200 freestyle (1:57.06) after dropping nearly two seconds off her time. She finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.09 seconds.
Lopes freshman
Maria Brunlehner shaved seconds off her personal best in the 100 freestyle (51.97) and 50 freestyle (23.80) with second-place finishes.
Muteti also improved, earning a top-three finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.47.
The Lopes finished with a relay sweep, taking the 400 freestyle relay with Brunlehner, Banic, Wegrzynowska and Muteti swimming a time of 3:33.37.
Up next, GCU will head back to Burns Aquatics Center for more competition at 11 a.m. Saturday.
