Puehse earns weekly WAC honor

GCU sophomore earns 1st career WAC Player of the Week award
Grand Canyon sophomore Natasha Puehse was named the WAC Singles Player of the Week on Jan. 26.
In her first season competing at the top singles position the Scottsdale, Arizona, native dominated her singles match against Arizona on Saturday at the GCU Tennis Facility. Puehse defeated the Wildcats' Tayla Zandberg 6-2, 6-2 en route to her first win of the season.
The right-handed sophomore never trailed in the match, jumping out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set. In the second set, the scoreline was trimmed to 3-2, but Puehse won the final three games to close out the match.
This is Puehse's first career WAC Player of the Week honor. As a freshman, she earned WAC Singles Player of the Month. In the spring, she finished 5-5 at the No. 2 singles position.
Puehse and the Lopes will be back in action next week when they take on Cal Poly on the road on Feb. 5.
