The Grand Canyon diving team returns to action on Saturday when it visits Northern Arizona in Flagstaff.
This competition will be the third overall for the Lopes, but the first since a match-up with California Baptist on Dec. 12.
GCU opened its season at the Northern Arizona Diving Invitational on Dec. 5-6.
On the men's side, GCU had strong dives by freshmen
Isaac Poole,
Thomas Wesche and
Reece Robles. Poole took fourth place against a strong field from the 1-meter board. His 310.85 points was an NCAA zone qualifying score. Wesche was GCU's top performer on the 3-meter board, finishing in fifth place with a score of 274.04. Freshman
Nicholas Gunn finished in seventh place. On the platform, Robles led the Lopes with a score of 246.00.
Against CBU, Wesche led the Lopes with a pair of runner-up finishes, just short of NCAA zone qualifying scores.
The GCU women were led by freshman Lizzy Mcknight at the NAU Diving Invitational in December. Mcknight led the Lopes from the 3-meter board with a score of 268.65, nearly qualifying for NCAA zones. Junior Nicole Yeakley finished in 13th place. From the 1-meter board, Mcknight led the way with a 12th-place finish, scoring 235.70 points.
Against California Baptist, Mcknight captured the 1-meter and 3-meter events with NCAA zone qualifying scores. Mcknight was later named the WAC Diver of the Week for her efforts.
