The Grand Canyon women's golf team was well-represented with the release of the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars.
Carmen Belmonte,
Alexis Jones,
Alexis Linam and
Payton Fehringer represented GCU's honorees for the 2019-20 honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. This includes a minimum 3.5Â GPA.
Belmonte had an outstanding freshman season while adjusting to life and school in the United States. The Cordoba, Spain, native held the top scoring average by a freshman in the WAC and fourth best overall in the conference. Her stroke average of 73.9 was second on the Lopes.
Jones spent her first season with GCU after transferring from Oakland. The former Horizon League Freshman of the Year appeared in three events for the Lopes, including tying for 18th place at the GCU Invitational. She completed her junior season with a 77.63 scoring average.
Linam broke through with her first collegiate victory, coming at the GCU Invitational in February. The Phoenix native recorded the lowest single-round score of the season for the Lopes and had a 75.57 scoring average. After completing her junior season, Linam has continued to have success in local summer events.
Fehringer, the 2019 WAC Freshman of the Year, continued her upward trend. The Pocatello, Idaho, native was third on the Lopes with a 74.23 stroke average. The sophomore notched a top-10 finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational and has carried her play over into the summer as the top amateur in several pro events.
