Payton Fehringer finished in a tie for second place in at the most recent event for The Cactus Tour in nearby Buckeye.
Fehringer finished Friday with a three-round total score of 224 (8 over par) at Sundance Golf Club and was four shots behind medalist Sarah Burnham, a professional who was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year at Michigan State.
Fehringer fired rounds of 75, 74 and 75 on the par-72 course against a field of mostly professionals and elite amateurs. The former WAC Freshman of the Year recorded a total of nine birdies in the tournament.
Last month, Fehiringer shot a 1-over 73 in the final round of the GCU Invitational to help her Lopes team win its final competition of the season.
The Cactus Tour is the only West Coast competitive mini tour for women's golfers. In line with the COVID-19 outbreak, the tour has implemented rules to have players compete in pairs, not use rakes in bunkers and putt with flagsticks left in the holes.
