Okyere, Lundberg top WAC week's performances
Grand Canyon student-athletes Jorden Okyere and Madelyn Lundberg swept WAC Field Athletes of the Week awards for Feb. 17-23 with their performances at the NAU Tune Up meet.
Â
Okyere, a sophomore thrower, broke the GCU shot put record for the third week in a row on Friday at Northern Arizona. He hit his farthest mark of 17.43 meters, which surpassed his previous record of 17 meters. He also has broken the GCU record for weight throw twice this season with his current mark sitting at 18.03 meters.
Â
Lundberg, a junior pole vaulter, sits in second place in WAC behind teammate Alyson Schwartz. Lundberg's jump of 4.05 meters at NAU was just shy of her personal best of 4.07 meters at the same meet a year ago. Lundberg and two of her teammates rank in the top three spots for WAC as they head to WAC Indoor Championships this weekend in Nampa, Idaho.
Â
GCU senior transfer Damion Marshall was a nomination for WAC Track Athlete of the Week due to his accomplishments in the 60- and 200-meter dashes. He clocked in at 6.91 and 21.97 seconds, respectively.
