The Grand Canyon women's golf team hosts the GCU Invitational this weekend at GCU Golf Course.
The Invitational will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on both days.
The 13-team field consists of GCU, Eastern Washington, UTEP, Southern Utah, Seattle U, Hawaii, Utah Valley, North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, California Baptist, UC Riverside and CSU Bakersfield.
Last year, Toledo won the team title with an 877 (13 over par) score. The individual title went to Teresa Toscano of South Dakota State (212, 4 under par).
The Lopes finished in fourth-place last year with an 893 (29 over par) score.
Carolina Sandstrom and
Payton Fehringer recorded top-20 finishes.
The Lopes played about four holes of the Battle at the Rock tournament in Riverside before the tourney was wiped out due to strong winds. With the cancellation, the GCU Invitational will be the first tournament for the Lopes this spring.
After the GCU Invite, the Lopes stay local with the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa on March 13-15.
