LAS VEGAS — The Grand Canyon women's swimming and diving team lost 187-112 to UNLV on Saturday.
The Lopes began the meet placing second in the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman
Briana Rittenbach, junior
Marina McInelly, freshman Cece Mayer and sophomore
Emily Muteti finished in 1 minute 45.61 seconds.
GCU freshman
Kelsey Andrusak won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:24.51 and took second in the 500 freestyle in 2:17.92.
McInelly had a strong performance on the day with two first-place finishes and a second-place finish. She won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.83) and 200 breaststroke (2:17.92) and took second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.83). Lopes freshman
Hallie Kolb finished in second behind McInelly in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.38).
The Lopes swept the top three places in both diving events. Freshman
Sara Lameiro Castellanos won both with scores of 273.00 in the 1-meter dive and 314.45 in the 3-meter dive. In the 1-meter dive, junior
Tasmin Stewart placed second (234.40) and freshman
Ava Talorico took third (228.50). Talorico placed second in the 3-meter dive (231.15) and Stewart finished third (229.20).
Senior
Salma Zaitoun swam the 100 freestyle in 46.84 seconds to claim second for GCU.
Up next, the Lopes have a three-week break before traveling to Houston for the WAC Championships on Feb. 26-29.
